With the launch of Rivers Crossed Consulting I have had the opportunity to reflect on my work experience as I honed my vision and clarified my goals. For over 35 years I have worked in social justice in many different roles. I have been an executive director, a community organizer, a program developer, a fundraiser, a strategic planner, a volunteer, and a board member. I have worked in the issue areas of educational access for people of color, environmental justice, health care for the uninsured, immigrant rights organizing and coalition building. I have found such richness in the work and the stories of people I have met.
I see the nonprofit sector as a beacon of hope. So many of the nonprofit people I know are driven by a passionate commitment to improving the lives of their constituents and communities. And so many of them are accomplishing huge things with few resources. I am eager to put my shoulder to the wheel and help those organizations become even more effective.
Earlier in my career I focused on the ways we could build power together to address the injustices that I saw. Today I am happy to think about the ways that power requires love to bring about the fullness of community where we can all thrive. In the coming weeks, I'll be sharing with you the work I am doing or hope to do, either solo or along with the inspiring people I have been collaborating with. Themes to come will be:
